Sigma Chi is not
just based around social life, and academics; but also philanthropy,
or charity work. The Kappa Sigma Chapter currently takes part in
many philanthropic events per year. These events vary from carving
pumpkins at halloween to our annual week long Derby Days.
Our national charity that we support and work with is the
Childrens Miracle Network, an organization that helps out
children in need of money and medical needs.. All proceeds (amounts
which raise from $2,500 upwards!) from Derby Days goes
towards the 'CMN'. Our Derby Days consist of a Coach’s
Pageant, a Door Painting contest, a bro auction and much much more,
all which involve just the sororities on campus. Derby Days
is a time for our pledges and brothers to interact and find out the
power of our brotherhood and the enormous accomplishments we can
make when we all work together for a common goal, and of course,
have some fun.
Besides Derby Days,
Sigma Chi does a variety of activities to help the community
surround the Pacific campus. In the fall, Sigma Chi
invites kids from the local community to come and carve pumpkins.
In addition to that, we also take part in the age-long tradition of
handing out candy on Halloween. Sigma Chi also cleans
the highway a few times per semester. We adopted a stretch of
the 5 Freeway that we remove trash and restore its beautiful
landscape.
