I realized that sooner or later I would mess up and use some acronym like CVRG or SHRIMP without explaining what I was talking about and someone out there would be confused. I also realized it would be good to give a plug to some of the other projects which are strongly related to the BRAK Project. That's the purpose of this page.

So if you've found an acronym somewhere on this site which you don't find on this page, let me know so I can correct it.

CVRG: Undergraduate research

From 1995 to 1997 Prof. Stark had funding through a National Science Foundation grant, in conjunction with the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida, for two students to pursue undergraduate research in computer vision. The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program gave six students -- Tana Cicero (1995-1996), Lani Dodge (1997-1998), Victor Gong (1996-1997), Jason Mancini (1996-1997), Katie Roza (1997-1998) and Heather Watson (1995-1996) -- the chance to work in our lab on various research problems. Since then, numerous other students have worked on computer vision and robotic problems. These students over time have come to be known as the Computer Vision and Robotics Group (CVRG).

SHRIMP: Stereo vision system

One of the first projects on which CVRG members worked was building a stereo vision system for 3D object recognition. Tana Cicero and Heather Watson came up with the original specifications for SHRIMP, the Stereo Head Research IMage Processor. Their specifications for the mechanical head was turned over to L.J. Tognetti, a UOP mechanical engineering student who build the head as his senior design project. Since then, other students have worked with Prof. Stark on the control software and vision algorithms for this stereo head.
